Enkidu rankX | new media artist

Born in Saarbrücken in 1972, trained in film directing in Belgium, at home in Berlin since 1996. My practice spans digital art, video art, sound installation and electronic music, with collaborations in dance and theatre. In 2002 I co-founded the art company Einheit_7 e.V., where I have been teaching media art to underprivileged children and teenagers ever since.

My work circles around the friction between humans and their technologies: post-privacy, relational miscommunication, virtualisation and simulation — and the erosion of identity that follows. Alienation is the recurring keynote of my often stark, unsettling images.

Recent projects include my open-art complex „the code is cold“, the artists‘ book and radio play Background Radiation (together with Sulamith Sallmann), my sound project SONDAGE (2026), and my ongoing electronic duo incarnation Ur.X. My filmography counts more than 50 films, videos and experiments — shown in projections, screenings and installations across Berlin, New York and Amsterdam.bleak and unsettling work.

In most recent times, Enkidu rankX has exhibited his open-art complex „the code is cold“ and is currently finishing his video-art series „DOGS“. His filmography is comprised of more than 50 films and experiments with projections, screenings and installations in Berlin, New York & Amsterdam.

  • SONDAGE — solo project for electronic & electroacoustic music, radio play (Hörspiel), and sound collage. „Tonale Archäologie der Zwischenwelt … Nicht Komposition. Befund.“ (tonal archaeology of the in-between world … not composition. Finding.)
    • NARKON: Situ 2 / Stratum 7–11 (July 2026, Berlin) — an archaeology of the abyssal strata of human consciousness, excavating layers 7 to 11. Composition, arrangement & production: Enkidu rankX; trumpet: Uri Killisch. Part of the NARKON series, published within the SONDAGE edition.
    • Hintergrundstrahlung / Background Radiation (2015–2022) — a soundscape built from intercepted broadcast signals, military and civil frequencies, recorded in a moment of global uncertainty. Collaboration with photographer Sulamith Sallmann. Archive unit of the SONDAGE corpus.
    • mono étude en dix parties (2014) — ten electroacoustic études for Monotron and electronics. Archive unit of the SONDAGE corpus.
    • the code is cold — audio version (2013/2026) — sound installation from the 2013 exhibition at Krankenhauskirche im Wuhlgarten, Berlin; atmospheric material composed for 45 text fragments drawn from a manifesto on machine consciousness, post-privacy, and the mutual evolution of man and technology.   • Ur.X — Berlin-based unit with Uri Killisch. Album „no w here“
